Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree of English literature. Mitchell joined KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. In 1976, she was a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). In Washington she was made general reporter by NBC News two year later. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell appeared as both an anchor and a panelist on the TV news show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a part of the panel at the 1988 Presidential Debates, which featured George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times for journalism excellence, including an award called the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. She was also honored with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell was the first journalist to cover White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president from 1981-1988. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news issues, such as the arms control, the budget tax and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended many summits with the help of President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
